Media Can’t Get Enough of New Consumer Payments Technologies
On Tuesday, ETA CEO Jason Oxman was featured everywhere from Spokane, Washington to Greensboro, North Carolina, discussing the latest in payments technology. With ETA member technology, Oxman was able to demonstrate new ways to pay and explain where he sees the future of money going.
“We’re seeing a great migration to the most significant period of payments innovation in the 40-year history of the credit card,” Oxman said. “We’re moving away from those plastic cards with magnetic stripes on them — the same technology used in cassette tapes, that’s how old it is — and we’re seeing great new mobile payments options and wearable payments options.”
The series of interviews, conducted on television, radio, and online, showcased Android Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and options found anywhere from your mobile device to your fitness-tracking watch. Security remains a top ETA focus, and when discussing “Selfie Pay,” Oxman explained how the future of biometrics will better authenticate the user for their payment, moving away from the PIN and signature standards of today.
Mobile payments continue to prove to be more secure than previous methods, using individual tokens to translate each purchase away from your credit card number and requiring your fingerprint to actually get into your personal device.
