ETA Releases Updated Payment Facilitator Guidelines
Payment facilitators have had a major impact on the payments ecosystem. Since they burst onto the scene less than a decade ago, these tech-forward, software-driven payments companies have grown payments in new and exciting ways.
ETA’s membership includes many payment facilitators, or companies who do business directly with payment facilitators, as the trade association for the entire payments ecosystem.
Two years ago, ETA released its first edition of the Payment Facilitator Guidelines, a document that offered the industry a holistic view of payments best practices for new payment facilitator entrants. Today, ETA released an updated version of the guidelines – a second edition – which offer guidance for these new entrants on topics like settlement, registration, funding delays, fraud, security, and related issues. The Payment Facilitator Guidelines support the growth of payment facilitators by outlining effective tools for compliance and were developed and updated with input from leading payment facilitators, acquirers and payments technology companies.
These guidelines represent the continuing evolution in the payments industry, and ETA’s role as a voice for all segments of the ecosystem.
ETA Guidelines are provided to no cost to ETA members and is one of several new initiatives aimed at supporting new entrants to the payments industry. Last year, ETA launched its first-ever Payment Facilitator committee, which meets regularly to promote industry leadership among payment facilitators.
Next week, payment facilitator leaders will meet again in person at ETA’s Strategic Leadership Forum, the premier payments networking event for C-suite executives, to further ETA’s work as the leading industry voice in the payment facilitator space.
The Guidelines are also an element of ETA’s efforts to promote best practices and responsible self-regulation in the payments technology ecosystem. ETA recently announced the ETA Self-Regulation Program (ETA SRP), which provides ISOs, payment facilitators and acquirers the ability to demonstrate reliability and industry acumen by attesting that they adopt and utilize either the ETA Guidelines on Merchant and ISO Underwriting and Risk Monitoring or the ETA Payment Facilitator Guidelines.
